Love Grows is Ailsa and Brad, two wholehearted farmers from Bucks County, PA. It is our mission to grow a more peaceful, meaningful and productive existence for ourselves and those around us. Providing our community with nutritious, fresh and locally grown produce with a connection to the land and their farmers is an absolutely vital part of this process. Although the operation is not certified organic, our vegetables are grown with standards surpassing USDA "Organic". We believe that healthy land grows healthy food and healthy people. We are a pair of ecologically sensitive growers with respect for biology both in mind and practice. We do not spray any synthetic inputs in or around any of our growing fields. Compost, cover crops and rotational grazing feed our soil and our food. We are a 3.25 acre operation going into our 8th season, growing for 3 farmer’s markets. We focus on greens, roots and all things fresh for market while also producing a fair amount of longer-storing produce. We emphasize human power over fuel and petroleum-product use and we are especially keen to close our resource loops. This work is our calling and we aim to protect it and our souls from a heartsick capitalist system while making, like, a decent living.
Deadline for all applications is 15 February 2023
Love Grows Assistant Vegetable Production Manager There is latitude in this position for a variety of candidates: those who are well on their way to starting their own small scale veggie farm or becoming a co-owner of an existing operation, those who want to ease into farm management within a fully fleshed out operation, or those with plenty of veg experience who are feeling a little burnt out and want a simpler gig. Love Grows is an operation scaled to thrive with just one more experienced grower. The Assistant Manager will be relied upon to work in the field, with infrastructure, and at the markets just Ailsa or Brad would. This position involves all of the fun aspects of running a vegetable operation: sowing, planting, hand and hand-tool cultivation, tractor operation, harvest, wash/pack and slinging veggies at the markets, without the weight of administrative tasks (unless you’re into that sort of thing). Ability to lead 1 or 2 other crew members is ideal. The ability to do consistent, quality work at a brisk pace is essential. Applicants should be content and able to do demanding and repetitive physical labor in heat, rain or cold, either alone or with other employees. The ideal candidates will communicate effectively with the owners and keep operations running efficiently if either are not present. This position allows room for spearheading projects that dovetail with the operation but aren’t manageable without dedicated staff (i.e. laying hens, flowers, microgreens, highly intensive tunnel production). Prerequisites: 2 full season’s experience on a vegetable production farm. 6 week preseason functional fitness training. Pay: $16-$20/hr depending on experience. We encourage open dialogue about financial needs. Time commitment: Ranges from 35 to 50 hours per week. Flexible start/end dates between April and December. Winter work may be available. Perks: Most of the things you need for good health: fresh air, sunshine, nutrient-rich food, routine, and purpose! Weekly vegetable share ($440 value). End-of-season and 2023 returning bonuses. 2 days vacation. Free snacks and drinks. Housing may be available. Please send resume to info@lovegrowscsa.com along with the answers to the following questions: Do you live within 25 minutes of Playwicki Farm and have reliable transportation? What is your motivation for wanting to work on a vegetable production farm? **Applicants for this position are strongly encouraged to apply by mid-November so that a paid working interview can be scheduled before the farm season concludes. Demonstrating work ethic this way gives a huge advantage over other candidates**
