Like many first generation farmers we do not own the land that we grow on. We rent land at Snipes Farm in Morrisville, PA. The owners of that land have filed an eviction complaint against us. We want the truth of this situation to be made clear. This page is here as a resource for all that are interested in understanding how we got into this situation. Below is a chronology of our communications and interactions regarding our land lease relationship with the land owners and other information for context.
Ailsa and Brad were both employees of Snipes Farm and Education Center (SFEC) prior to leasing land from the Snipes. Brad began working at Snipes in January 2009 and held the title of Head Grower for the CSA for four seasons until December of 2012. Because of the importance of planning ahead in agriculture Brad informed the Snipes in November of 2011 that 2012 would be his final season in that position. He left in order to help his mom rehabilitate from a hemorrhagic stroke she suffered in 2010. During the 2013 season Brad worked part-time for the farm and served as a board member of SFEC. In December of 2013 he accepted the Snipes' offer t0 become the Orchard Manager for the farm. He did this from January 2014 until December 2015. As of this writing (May 2019) you can still find Brad on his electric tractor on the homepage of SFEC's website.
Ailsa began as an SFEC farmer in March of 2014 and continued until December 2015.
Ailsa and Brad began officially began leasing land in March of 2016 to begin Love Grows.
